Srikanteshwara Kala Kendra, founded in 1987 by Vid. Shamala Aswath and the late H. C. Aswath, has been a beacon of artistic excellence for over 35 years. Vid. Shamala Aswath has dedicated her life to teaching Bharatanatyam, Veena, and vocal music, shaping the artistic journey of countless students. Her own journey in the arts began at the age of seven when she started learning Bharatanatyam under Guru N. N. Bhaskar and Veena under Guru Rajalakshmi Tirunarayanan. She went on to earn a Vidwath certification in Bharatanatyam from KSSEB and holds a Master's degree in instrumental Veena. Though she pursued a Bachelor of Science degree, her passion for the arts ultimately became her profession. She began teaching Bharatanatyam and Veena in Mastikatte, Shimoga district, in 1987. Vidhushi Gowri Sagar is a gold medallist in Master’s Degree Bharatanatyam from Jain University. She is an ‘A’ grade artist of Doordashan . Gowri is an empanelled artist of ICCR and SpicMacay .. Gowri Sagar is an acclaimed Bharatanatyam dancer who began her initial training at the age of 5. Her mother Vidhushi Smt Shamala Aswath is her first Guru. Gowri’s tutelage continued with her mother for many years. Her passion for dance took a deeper root when she started her training from Guru late Sri B.R. Thulasiram. Gowri is now the disciple of Guru Sri Sathyanarayana Raju and hones her expertise under his guidance. Gowri is also trained in Classical music and Nattuvanga. Gowri is also a yoga practioner and trainer. Gowri is the dance director of Srikanteshwara Kala kendra & trains many young art enthusiasts. She channels the rich history and cultural significance of Kathak through her performances, captivating audiences with her storytelling and technical prowess. In addition to Kathak, Suchetha is also skilled in contemporary dance, allowing her to explore a wide range of movement styles and artistic expressions.
